چکیده

This study investigates the non-isothermal reduction of iron ore fines with two different carbon-bearing materials using thermogravimetric technique. The fines/carbon composites were heated from room temperature up to 1100 °C heating rates (5, 10, 15, and 20 °C/min) under an argon atmosphere. effect carbon sources on rate was intensively investigated. Reflected light scanning electron microscopes used examine morphological structure reduced composite. results showed that affected extent rate. Under same rate, relatively higher by charcoal than coal. behavior ore-coal proceeded step wisely as follows: Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 FeO Fe. ore/charcoal finally metallic iron. kinetics deduced applying methods (model-free model-fitting). calculated activation energies Fe2O3/charcoal Fe2O3/coal are 40.50–190.12 kJ/mol 55.02–220.12 kJ/mol, respectively. These indicated is controlled gas diffusion at initial stages nucleation reaction final stages.

Carbon Monoxide Reduction of Iron Ore

C ERTAIN attention is paid today to the weaknesses of the classical blast furnace process, and interest is continuously increasing in methods for direct reduction without melting. Several different methods have been developed or suggested in the past, but so far only a few have been adopted for practical use. Another tendency in the iron industry of today is the change-over to concentrates, wit...

KINETICS OF CARBOTHERMIC REDUCTION OF AN IRANIAN CELESTITE ORE

Two commercial methods are used for the production of strontium carbonate:1) Direct conversion of Celsetite to strontium carbonate by hot sodium carbonate,2) Carbothermic reduction of celestite with coal followed by water leaching of strontium sulfide(SrS) and its conversion to strontium carbonate. The present study has been made on the carbothermic reduction of celestite ores of Varamin (Iran) ...

THE EFFECT OF VOLATILE MATTER OF NON-COKING COAL ON THE REDUCTION OF IRON OXIDE AT NON-ISOTHERMAL CONDITION

The volatile matter of non-coking coal was used for the reduction of hematite in argon atmosphere at nonisothermal condition. A thermal gravimeter furnace enable to use an 80 mm-height crucible was designed for the experiments to measure the weight changes of about 10 grams samples. A two-layered array of coal and alumina and four-layered array of iron oxide, alumina, coal and alumina was u...

The Layered Reduction of Hematite (Iron Oxide) Ore by Non-Coking Coal: The Effect of Calcium Carbonate on Reduction

Due to the abundance of the non-coking coal and limitations as well as the high costs of the natural gas, the present study examined the direct reduction of hematite (iron oxide) ore in the temperature range of 800-1000 °C by the non-coking coal volatiles. Approximately, 74.9% of the total amounts of volatiles and gases exit the coal up to 800°C. The onset temperature to exit volatiles from the...
